The best whitebait fritter in New Zealand! No scrambled egg fritter here! Instead, a plump, juicy, densely filled whitebait fritter served with just the right amount of creme fraiche, zest and a wedge of juicy lemon. Absolutely scrumptious. As it is a menu staple, I can salivate about all day in advance of my evening booking. I like to follow this fritter with the pork schnitzel - sublimely moist and juicy. Once you try either of these menu regulars you cannot resist coming back, nor will you feel tempted to stray reading the rest of the menu. The staff are friendly, always welcoming and, as the restaurant is always buzzing and well patronised, you know you're not the only one who salivates about their meal in advance of taking a seat. The Engine Room never fails to disappoint.
