The first time I tried Broke Boy Taco was at a sneaker meet-up at the Ponsonby Social Club. It was almost the star of the show. People were lined up out the door for these tacos so I just had to give them a go. I was not disappointed at all. Four amazing tacos topped with mouth-watering birria , cilantro, onions and cheese. I also got the chips and dip. Out on the tables (which were all full of people enjoying said tacos) were a few condiments. The tacos themselves come with a consumme I believe the birria is made in which makes it 10x better to dip into. Watching the chef feed well over 300-400 people on his own was amazing. It was definitely his signature dish. It was like poetry in motion watching him move around the kitchen effortlessly delivering the best tacos in Auckland and still have such a big smile on his face. I gave him a follow on social media and was able to follow him around where ever a pop up store would go. You would see the same faces at these pop up restaurants all coming to support their favourite business no matter where it was. Sometimes you wouldn't be able to get one because they had sold out but just being there to support him was so cool to see. Now that he has his own restaurant in Mt Albert, everyone can enjoy his tacos. Such a good price and well worth the drive from Warkworth just to go and have probably the best tacos in New Zealand.
