When I was young, my family and our neighbours did a hangi in our backyard in Te Atatu. I've never had a real proper hangi since then, but I can still remember the unique taste of the pork and veges, the steamed and roasted texture with a smokey flavour. When I had this pie for the first time I immediately felt the nostalgia and it sent me back in time to that childhood memory.
