Bar Magda quite literally serves food unlike anything else in Auckland. Chef Carlo Buenaventura serves modern Filipino food heavily influenced by the flavours of the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. Amongst their ever-rotating seasonal menu is a dish that has remained since the restaurant opened and that is their iconic Lamb Ribs Pyanggang. It's topped with a forest of fresh and fragrant herbs and an amazing green sambal that perfectly compliments the incredibly fall-off-the-bone lamb ribs. What's more amazing than the food here however is Carlo's passion for championing the food and cultures of Mindanao interwoven with anecdotes from his upbringing and you can't help but be fascinated by the stories he tells about each dish. Bar Magda, being the most unassuming backstreet hole-in-the-wall, has already catapulted itself as one of the best restaurants in Auckland, with the Lamb Ribs being a staple of their incredible menu.
