Papatūānuku Kōkiri Marae

Steamed and roasted Kumara with kawakawa pesto

Awarded by Peter Gordon
The kumara grown at Papatūānuku Kōkiri Marae in East Mangere. They grow many vegetables at the marae, in a Māori ‘practice’ known as Hua Parakore - which is rooted in organics but so much more including kaitiakitanga (cultural and environmental sustainability). Their purple kumara are really special – but to be honest anything they grow is fabulous. You can find them on Sundays at Grey Lynn market and you can purchase one of their veggie boxes online for $25 at www.papatuanukukokirimarae.org/shop/ Steam your kumara, then roast and serve with kawakawa pesto!
